"AmeriKKa" Painting

$5,000.00

“AmeriKKKa”

30” × 30”

Oil, acrylic, newspaper, and thread on canvas

This painting was created to evoke a multitude of emotions from its viewers, capturing the raw, and multi-layered reactions Jima experienced following the recent election. She felt it was needed to express a mix of anger, frustration, and defiance—all into one powerful painting. Inspired by a tattoo she saw 2 years ago depicting a KKK member hanging from a middle finger, Jima reimagined this symbol in her own style.

This mixed media piece has a background of torn newspaper placed to form the American flag, creating texture and symbolism to the artwork. A large, oil-painted middle finger takes up the space, with a small figure hanging from a noose made of tightly twisted newspaper strips. The figure is a white businessman in a KKK hood yet dressed in a sharp blue suit represents a parallel between those who embrace hatred and racism while masking it under their “professionalism”.

The viewer is invited to interpret the figure in their own way, as Jima intended for this piece to confront and challenge. Some may find the image unsettling, but art is meant to be disruptive, to force reflection, and to voice the unspoken. This painting embraces discomfort, representing the emotions felt by many.
