I knew I was born underwater

But I thought I was born bound.

Afraid to swim and to conquer the waters that be.

But baby I was born free.

You can hear it in my speech.

I’ve finally realized nobody cares about the way I talk but me.

This Baltimore blood runs through and through.

We are one of one.

The greatest city on earth for a reason.

Tried, Tested and True.

I’ve loved through it all.

With churches on every corner and within grandmother’s whose coverings rebuke our own misdirection I know prayer.

I fix my lips toward heaven often.

I know that God is in everyone and in everything.

That freedom lies within the rhythm of everybody.

It’s in the way club music strums the chords of our joy. It’s saltpeppaketchup as one word. Dirt bikes be lullabies.

And I’ve realized that being a guest in your own skin is accepting that home was always within yourself.

It’s in due time that your flowers will bloom.

Nobody you sold this freedom It was born already inside of you.

And if ever you forget where you come from Remember to notice the seeds that came before you.
